Back home again!

5 juni 2017 - Rotterdam, Nederland

Already back home for two days now and it's great! The weather is lovely and it's so nice to not live out from our suitcases anymore. I'm happy we left a bit earlier so we could have 2 nice days to relax from all our travelling and get our things back together before going to work.

It was sad to leave Budapest and Bogdans family behind though. We had a really nice stay on Wednesday and celebrated Miláns birthday. Of course some nice lunch was included with rabbit this time accompanied by a some Egri Bikavér which we brought and a fruity cake as desert. We talked about all kinds of things and had a really good time. We stayed there almost all day long and then we inevitably had to say goodbye. Too bad we can't just timetravel to them in a split second whenever we want. They took care of us so well during our stay in Hungary and it was really cosy to hang out with them as much as possible. His grandma made us a gigantic survival kit, by baking loads of cheesy breadsticks and abricot süti; both so nice and tasty! That would keep us from getting hungry for at least 3 days. And that was great cause during our travel bavk to Holland we didn't need to stop for food for once!

On Thursday we left Budapest and went to our first stop; Linz in Austria. Just 10 minutes before leaving we booked a place to stay and off we go. Travelling through Hungary and Austria went nice and fast again and we arrived around 15 o' clock in our hotel. Trams from there to the centre went every 2 minutes so we were able to see the city completely. And we were happy with our last-minute choice. Linz is a beautiful city with lots of cute churches and chique buildings. It also has a huge gothic church, which has a lot of resemblance with the Sint Jan in Den Bosch from the outside. The Danube goes across it and the river banks are very green and on the other side there was a nice cloister on a hill. There were lots of nice original shops, quite expensive too. And just when we were longing for a drink big time, I saw a little inside square and my intuition said I should have a look. And all of a sudden there was the entrance of a very big biergarten, full of people and with a beautiful and cosy roof made out of low branches from big trees. Perfect!! We had our beer, we had different kind of sausages and we met the most less talkative waiter ever. He could just say "Bier" and "Bitte" but that was enough for us. We were so pleased to have found this cool place out of nowhere...and the beer helped of course. We had some walks through all the small streets and there were little corners and squares with nice terraces everywhere. We had some fresh made icetea at a special teashop and had some Linzer schnitte and watched the chique people walking by. Cool to have this really short visit, but still get the essence of a city. Our night in the only hotel during our holiday was not too great; a good reminder to only go for that if there are no other options. It was hot, there was noise from other people, the receptionist was super grumpy and impersonal and wifi was only available at 1 room; the smokersroom. So, no thanks!

On Friday we had a similar distance as the day before but now to Leinach, a small village near Würzburg, Germany. Travelling through Germany is still not our favorite because of all the work on the road and we had a big traffic jam because of an accident. When we arrived to Leinach it was half past 4 and it was hot so instead of going into the busy city, try to park and walk around we decided to enjoy the sun in our beautiful garden from our super cool designer Airbnb hanging in a hammock. So nice! And really happy with our choice. In the evening we made a walk through the vineyards and the forest and petted the dog of the owners (yes, again a lovely one of course). We got a recommendation for a restaurant where the husband of the owner was working and since there was not much else around we went there. We could hardly find it, cause it was in the middle of nowhere of course, but this was everything we needed to have a really cool last night of our holiday. There were a few old farm buildings, a nice terrace in between, but also a festival-like grassfield with wooden benches and relax chairs where there was loud music, a bar and a BBQ. With lots of fresh salads, grilled fish, shaslicks and super friendly people everywhere. First we sat on the more quiet and rustic terrace to eat our meal and have the best chocomousse with mango icecream ever (which I eventually didn't even have to pay for, since we stayed at their Airbnb). There was such a relaxed atmosphere and we got invited to join our host and her husband with some friends for several times and eventually we did (although it felt a bit awkward at the start). But somehow we felt like we made lots of new friends, cause we were talking all night with the spontanous people there. All kinds of nationalities too, so it was very funny to end up like this on our last night. Really perfect!!

Saturdaymorning we left to finally arrive back to Holland. The sky turned more cloudy every km we got closer to the border and right before the we crossed it we were welcomed by some dark grey/blue clouds full of a horrible big rain. I had to slow down a lot with driving cause I couldn't see anything, that bad. So we were making quite some jokes about how happy we were with being back again. Luckily it got better later on and we made a quick stop at my mom and my sister in Rosmalen. Nice to see my family again and get to hear everything that happened here in the meanwhile (a lot!). Longing for our own house which was so close we left and it was so strange to arrive home after all the different houses we've been in the last 4 weeks. We had to adjust a bit, but soon we were so happy and comfortable; hmm our home!! We went out to have some snacks at the restaurant around the corner, petted our super cute own streetcat Bob and enjoyed our lovely neighbourhood.

It's good to be back and we had great experiences during our roadtrip. We loved the different places we've visited, driving through the beautiful landscapes, eating great food, spending time with family and friends, and meeting new nice people. Everything went easy and beyond expectation. We already started thinking about a second roadtrip...But for now we have enough memories to build on for a while.
