Lost in the forest with a flat tire

15 mei 2017 - Bozsok, Hongarije

I want to start with thanking everyone for your reactions to our travellog. They are really nice to read (and funny). And we take some feedback into account too! So Edit; we added some pictures of me. ;-) Bogdán is making them with his phone, but till now it was easier to just upload some pictures from my phone (and I never like pictures of myself). And good to hear it's nice wheather in Holland Katrien. And yes we totally love the old fashioned "kneuterigheid" we've seen so far, it's really cosy.

Today we planned to go to Sopron, but since on Mondays lots of museums are closed which we are interested in, we decided to postpone this to tomorrow. We decided to ask for the bikes from the owners of this house cause we were into something else then walking today. I got a nice mountainbike and they gave Bogdán this small, old and pink womansbike. With some bad gears. We changed places, but going up on the forestpath was extremely heavy with it. Yeah...we expected to have an easy and relaxing day...but we put iur muscles to the test again. The forest or actually national park (where we'd also ran the day before) is really beautiful and nice smells all over. It got even better when we could finally go downhill. But when we stopped for a nice view, we heard a big bang and even saw some smoke. I thought I stepped on some fireworks, but it was my front tire that bursted. Hmm, not good! The village we wanted to visit (Velem) couldn't be far away though, so we decided to keep on walking with our bikes in our hands. The only thing we underestimated, was the fact that there were no instructions, signs or whatsoever and there were many paths to chose from. Google maps also couldn't cope with it, so there was nothing left then some trial and error....it became error mostly. Lots of the paths we took just got smaller and smaller and looked less used after a while. And more importantly; they turned away from the directiom they should go. Since there are a lot of ticks in Hungary around this time, we were not happy to stroll around the high grass and old leaves laying around full of insects (and going upwards again). It took some time but luckily we got back to a bigger path leading to Velem. When we finally got there we were not interested to see the place anymore (didn't look to promising either) and we just wanted to chill on our veranda. So we just went back. Now staying on the bigher paths and finding out that because of a mistake at one turn, we managed to make the trip in 2,5 hours instead of just the 40 minutes on the way back. Okay, we totally deserved some süti for all that we've been through! 2 pieces at least!! This made us forget about everything again and relax. This cakeplace is so great and it's in the middle of nowhere. But still there are always multiple customers standing in line. I had a Lúdlab (lots if chocolate) and a Dobos torta (chocolate-cream cake with a crunchy caramel layer) and Bogdán took a lovely Mozart (had that yesterday; supernice combination of hazelnut cream and marzipan) and Puncs torta (cake soaked in punch, too sweet for me). Ok, everything was fine again! Just relaxing for the rest of the day and in the evening we went to the restaurant basically next to our house to have a huge portion with lots of meat and potatoes and a heavy desert (somloi galuska, the Hungarian variant of tiramisu). Tomorrow we will finally be visting Sopron and the nearby Esterhazy palace, to arrive in Budapest in the evening. At Bogdáns birthday!! And the day we met 4 years ago!
