Going for the Alps

12 mei 2017 - Mondsee, Oostenrijk

We are in Austria now, at the beginning of a nice warm day. And we really need to catch up from all the things we did the last 2 days. So here it is!

Wednesday our day started with a run, in a park, in Münich. It's really cool to run in a place you don't or barely know. We saw a lot of new stuff and our beautiful neighbourhood. And...a squirrel!! Just in front of us and staying there until we were 1m away. While trying to squeeze some more minutes/meters in our run every time, we missed the fact that we got late to pay the parkingmachine. Again (it happened the evening before too). But luckily we didn't get a fine, yaay!! Lets celebrate with some nice bakery stuff! We do find it stupid that you have to pay almost everything in cash in Germany. And there are not too many atm's either. Super inconvenient! But well....bakery stuff always works, so we had some nice breads, cookies and sweet buns.
Walking to the city centre, after a run and a day full of walking the day before (259% according to my "stepcounter"), without having a drink and with warm wheather was not such a good idea. We got tired, actually especially me and I was in need for a drink. But ordening tea is not an option at a Bräuhaus, so lets do it the Münich way and go for half a liter of beer! Es hat gut geschmeckt! And sitting in the sun (although the inside looked super cool and dark with old men playing games) was delicious. Ok, now we were ready for our long walk through the 80 rooms of the Residenz palace. Everybody is always talking about the gap between the rich and poor that is getting bigger nowadays, but seriously; there were some huge differences back then too!! Unbelievable how big, how much gold, 10+years-of-work-furniture and all kinds of special objects there were. It was great to see, but damn; that tax money got spend!
After this we were ready to enjoy the sun and give our feet some rest (we spent more then 3 hours in there). It was time for the English gardens and so did the rest of Münich feel. It was the perfect wheather for it and it was nicely crowded (the park is huge, so no side by side laying here). We almost got hit by a horse galopping there, when we were checking the map of the park and somebody screamed "Vorsicht" to us. Oops, this was the horse path. We sat down at a small dome on a hill, where we could overlook al the towers of the city. Luckily some albino teen that thought he could sing stopped right after we arrived. It was warm, it was hot, even at 18h! And....somehow there was not a single place where you could buy a drink or some food. Too bad! So although we were super tired an our feet didn't want to go on that much anymore (should have taken my real walking shoes, but they are so ugly), we decided to search for a terrace in the city WITH supplies. And yaay we found it, just a real small but nice spot behind the Frauenkirche where we could get the last sun for the day. Of course we needed to finish our visit here with another brauhaus and Bogdán had found a cool looking one in a park away from the centre; Königlicher Hirschgarten. After getting off from the S bahn, we thought things went wrong, cause we could just see a big block of new offices, but thanks to Google maps offline we found the park! And there is was; it looked like a festival terrain; full of long tables and benches outside and all kind of different foodstalls. Everybody was sitting outside because of the nice wheather, but we were getting cold and wanted to see the inside packed with deer or other horns. It looked great and there were like 5 different rooms with eachnone of them having there own style. We could even pick the one we liked most ourselves. The food was delicious...and a lot! But what's new?!

Oops, this blog is turning into a novel...but well, others can stop when they want of course. Yesterday was the day we had to leave Münich....and Bill!! It was hard, especially when we noticed that the poor thing exactly knew what was going on, cause he's seen so many people leaving. I just realised then, that it is quit sad for him, to see so many people leaving him (that's how dogs look at it I think). When he saw our bags he barely looked at us anymore and was laying rolled up in a corner. And the night before he was so into us. He even did some tricks; when Bogdán tried to keep him away from his (already hairy) pants he said "Platz" and then Bill all of a sudden went standing on his two back pawns and keeping the others high in the sky. Very cool, although we were a bit freightened when he did that all of a sudden.
But those hairs. It was a good moment to leave, since it got warmer and we could almost see them falling out.
It was time to see dreamcastle Sloss Neuschwanstein; exciting! The landscape on our way to it rapidly changed and the moment we saw the Alps appearing right on front of us was magnificent. I totally got "The Sound of music"-vibe. Beautiful wavy hills with soft looking grass, Milka-cow-like cows, little white churches with high towers and those houses with wooden balconies. Lots of lakes too. And then....in the distance we could spot the castle. The closer we got the more impressive it is.
It is situated on a mountain, with the Alps at the back and lakes and big grasslands with cute little villages all in the front. A marvellous scenery for a fairytale-like castle. Or actually two, cause there are two big castles in this place. But we only visited Neuschwanstein. To get the whole experience, we made the climb to the castle by foot. Everything was well organized and we had an English tour at a specific time. We actually thought the tour itself would be dissapointing (because there might be so many people and we had seen the impressive Residenz before), but we super liked it. It is decorated so well and there are such cool views. Really pretty and well done. So sad that Ludwig the second could just enjoy it for 127 days (he died)! Really worth seeing this. On our way back to the car it started to rain a bit, so perfect wheather to head for Austria! We are quit lucky with the wheather cause it only starts raining when we need to drive. We were not so lucky with the traffic though; there was a big traffic jam right in front of Salzburg. They were "working" there and they actually do that in Germany every 3k it seems. Our speed differed from 80 to 120 to 60 every minute basically. Although the last part the speed was more likely to be 0. We did see beautiful villages and views along the way cause we took the touristic route (or actually; our navigation thought we should see that). We also had to search a bit for our next stop; we are in rural area! We scared some cows (they can be loud!!) when we drove into a land which was not our destination, but the owners were very friendly and curious (about wich villager is renting a place to tourists). And my German comes back more and more. But here we are, in Mondsee or officially Sankt Lorenz, totally in the middle of nowhere and it's great. What a view! And what a nice hostess we have! We look out on the mountaind and the valley cause our house is situated on a hill. And the owner literally welcomed us with open arms. A very nice woman who has lots to tell and loves to spoil people. She called the nearby restaurant to see if we could still eat there (because of our late arrival) and left all kinds of nice goodies on our room. We are gonna tast that soon! And yesterday night we had our super delicious Wiener Schnitzell mit preiselbeeren und petersilienkartoffeln and it was GOOD!!! Yum yum! Bogdán actually wanted to order another plate! But...he got some nice apfelstrüdel with vanillasauce instead. In short; we are very happy!!!
